Poveglia Island - Poveglia is an island just off Venice, Italy. It was used as a quarrantine for those with the Plague, where people were simply left to die, in pits of rotting corpses and flesh. In 1922, a mental hospital was built on the island. Legend says one doctor tortured and killed many of the patients, and operated with kitchen knives and without anaesthetics, before being thrown to his death from the island's bell tower. According to that same legend, he survived the fall, but was 'strangled by a mist that came up from the ground'. The bell tower stands on the island still, and the island is said to be haunted. It is believed 160,000 died on Poveglia Island.
In this eerie track, you can hear the infinite ringing of the bell tower, with one strike every two bars, and the groans and screams of the souls that haunt the island can be heard throughout.
